This gravel vacuum does a good job of cleaning the substrate and removing debris. I use sand in my aquarium, and it was effective at vacuuming without constantly clogging. The suction is strong, and it definitely has enough power for routine tank maintenance. The noise level is tolerable and the whole unit seems quite durable.My main issue is the overall size. I was actually looking for a gravel vacuum that would clean and return the water back into the tank, so that option is great. But because the motor is built into the lower part of the wand, the cleaning head is much bulkier than a traditional gravel vacuum. That makes it difficult to maneuver in smaller aquariums or around plants, rocks, and other decorations. For larger, more open tanks it would probably be a much better fit, but I found it not that easy to use for my setup.
I reviewed the AQQA 6-in-1 previously and when the 8-in-1 came through as an option I was curious whether the additional functions added real value or were just marketing additions. Having used both, the 8-in-1 has improvements that matter.The automatic water change feature is the standout. Being able to set a flow rate and let the system handle a partial water change while I do other things is a genuine time saver. The 320GPH suction is consistent with the other model and the anti-clog barrier continues to perform well on gravel without pulling substrate. The extended tank height range accommodating up to 30 inches gives more flexibility for taller display tanks.The extra attachments for different substrate types are useful additions rather than padding. The whole unit feels slightly more refined in build quality as well. If you are choosing between the two models and budget allows, the 8-in-1 is worth the step up. Both are excellent tools for regular maintenance but this one has fewer workarounds for edge cases in different tank setups.
