  1. Xmechanic

I like this filter as it is small and easy to place in the corner of my fish tank. It filters the water and aerates the water with air bubbles. Quiet operation and only hear the bubbles. The base is weighted
and hold the filter in place while operating. Nice attractive water bubble effect during Operation the filter comes with thorough instructions, 2 extra sponge filters and a 1 year written warranty.

  2. Kenneth M Ingram

This is a very high quality and well made device to replace the cheap one that I have been using. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it is made. I can recommend this sponge filter.

  3. Yady Omer

a solid choice for aquariums ranging from 20 to 110 gallons. This ultra-quiet, submersible filter serves both as a mechanical and biological filter, promoting a healthy environment for your fish. The sponge provides effective filtration while also offering a habitat for beneficial bacteria. It’s easy to install and maintain, fitting neatly into the corner of your tank without disrupting the aquatic setup. Its quiet operation ensures minimal disturbance to your aquatic life and environment, it¡¯s a reliable and efficient filter that offers great value for its price.

  4. Invisible Woman

In the manual the biological beads container is upside down and they picture a top cover that doesn’t exist. This makes setup confusing for the novice. It comes with 2 spare filter sponges. The statement that it is quiet will depend on the air pump put with it. It should work fine. I’m setting up a new tank and I will probably use this one as it is small and easily disguised with plants.

  5. The J

I like this as a supplemental filter. It provides some biological and mechanical filtration, as well as great aeration. It contains some biomedia and a sponge filter. Being a bubbler filter, it is pretty safe for shrimp and baby fish.
I would not use this as the primary filter for a tank stocked with fish. It doesn’t have the capacity. Use a HoB canister filter that is adequate for your tank, and add this for extra filtration and aeration. This could probably be a primary filter for a shrimp tank or a single betta.
This filter was very simple to set up. I recommend rinsing it well with aquarium water before use. Then you just connect the air hose and place it in the tank. Remember that you do need a separate air pump to use with this filter.

  6. billwhip

I like the size of this filter, and it was easy to set up… I did have to play with it a bit to keep it from floating… It can be nicely hidden with a few small plants. Price makes it a great value.

  7. InkyDinky

This filter has been working great for me! You only need to supply the air pump and hose. It was already set up in the box, I just rinsed and installed it. The airstone works great with lots of small bubbles. It’s quiet. The small size fits my 5.5 gal tank perfectly.

  8. Gezellige_Poes

This is a nice alternative to using air stones or bubblers if you want the added benefit of filtration. It is however, too big for my 5G, so the product description is misleading in my opinion. In such a small tank, one must be ever aware that anything added to the tank, such as rocks, aquarium filters, etc., will reduce the water volume, and that then factors into the bioload. It’s better suited for a larger tank, like my 20G. To prevent it from lifting up, I buried the base in sand with some rocks around it. To make it less obvious, and to not distract from my aquarium’s fish and plants, I planted some Amazon sword plants around it.

Of note, it does not come with an air pump.

  9. User7482

Exactly what I needed to keep my shrimp from getting sucked up. Relatively inexpensive and works well

  10. Rachel

I got this small bubble filter for a small tank. With the set up I have, it just pumps out too much air for my fish to feel comfortable with it. I plan to get a smaller pump to see if this might help. The box does not come with any tubing so just be aware. For a different setup, I think it would work great.

  11. Sid Thompson

So after finding an adequate air pump to use, this little guy worked great. There were some concerns about not being heavy enough to stay in place but it was not an issue.

Using it in a shallow tank to help with aeration and filter and it is doing the job nicely.

    Quite happy with this.

  12. Z Chen

I got this for my fish tank but didn’t realize that you need to supply your own air pump to get this to work so was unable to use it. I do like the size and the utility of it, but just a warning to others that you’ll need to have your own air pump to connect to it.

  13. Alimah

Nice bubble maker noise level is low great quality

  14. NunYaB.

I’ve had no issues with this decently made filter. I appreciate that it takes up a very small amount of space in my tank. It’s easy to clean, too.

  15. Szoo

This little filter does an incredible job of removing undissolved solids from the water. I don’t know how much i would agree with the 20-110 gallon claim though.

i am using it on a 55 gallon tank, which is right in the middle of the range – it works well, but I end up having to clean it out about once every 10 days.

the cleaning itself it’s TOO bad, but the process of removing the filter from the tank and disconnecting the hose often results in spilled water around the tank, making me wish it had higher capacity so that I wouldn’t have to clean it out as often.

    no disputing its effectiveness though!

I bought this AQQA Aquarium Sponge Filter for my 5-gallon tank when my original filter stopped working, and it has been a great replacement. It¡¯s compact and fits well in the tank without taking up too much space. The filter combines aeration and filtration, which keeps the water clear and provides good circulation for the fish. It¡¯s easy to set up¡ªjust make sure you have an air pump and hose, as those aren¡¯t included. I¡¯m happy with how quiet it is, and the weighted base ensures it stays in place. Overall, it¡¯s a solid, reliable filter for smaller tanks.

  17. Colorgirl

I had an issue with my 20 long tank crashing this summer. It was very hot out and the bubbler had quit and I did not replace it in time. The hang on back filter quit and I ended up with an oxygen crash. It was a combination of events that rarely happen. Since then, I have decided to get a sponge filter to add in the tank along with the hang on back filters which I try harder to keep clean.

    HOW THIS WORKS
You need to have an air pump and air hose to hook up to this filter. Once you do, you simply put the hose onto the filter and place it in the water. To make it easier to settle in, I soaked this in water first and rinsed it before putting it in the tank. That seemed to help it stay put.

    DOES IT WORK?
So far no issues with this. It provides air and extra ability for the biological filter to keep up healthy bacteria. I have this hooked up with an AC/DC battery back up pump so in case of power outage, I will still have some air in the tank.

    CLEANING
I have two other hang on back filters on this tank, so I have not had to clean this as of yet. Hopefully it won’t need it too often. I plan to just squeeze out the sponge and brush off the bubble stone.

    THE BOTTOM LINE
This is a great sponge filter which works. Be sure to have a pump and line that can work with it.

    MY RATING
FIVE STARS so far. I am glad I am switching to this because even if there is a power failure, the helpful biological bacteria will already be established to lessen any shock if the outage is prolonged.

    UPDATES
I will update as time goes by if there is anything to add.

I ordered this air pump supported tank filter because my tank¡¯s old filter failed and I urgently need a new replacement. So when I see this air pump supported filter available, I ordered it to try and so far it has worked as expected (tank clean and my little fish are happy).

This air pump supported tank filter is made in pretty nice quality. It required the connection through your air pump to work, which if your tank has no air pump, this filter will not operates. Since my tank has the air pump, I connected as following the ads guide and all turned out great. So far my tank water has been much cleaner than the few days when I was waiting for my new tank filter (this one), and I am happy with how it all works out.

Overall, a really nice tank filter and I do recommend ~

The filter unit came fully assembled and with spare sponge rings. The weighted base is sufficient to keep the filter at the bottom, even when freshly inserted in the water (while still containing lots of air). The produced bubbles are on the more coarse size even though the filter’s air stone is right under the outlet.

While the design is generally okay for most aquarium set ups, tanks with tiny babies may require putting a piece of coarse sponge or netting over the air outlet to prevent anything entering past the water bubbles and potentially getting trapped. This product is just for the filter itself, you must already have an air pump and air line (whether from this brand or another, the intake connector is standard to the aquarium hobby).

  22. BETTYBLUE

This works great for my 5 gal tank its quite & powerful and keeps my tank clean.

  23. justice

The filter is incredibly efficient at keeping the water clean while being gentle on the fish. It’s also very quiet, which is a huge plus. The setup was straightforward, and it fits perfectly in my tank. The sponge provides excellent biological filtration, promoting a healthy environment for my aquatic pets.

I purchased an identical larger version of this filter for my 10 gallon tank but I needed something with a smaller footprint for my 5 & 3 gallon tanks. What I love about this box filter most is that it is weighted on the bottom so there is no chance that it can flip over. Position it where you want and it stays put. There is also amply room to customize filtration media with carbon, ceramic rings, in addition to the sponge filtration. Because it is powered by a separate air pump, you can adjust the flow rate to you liking as well. The sturdy construction is also a HUGE plus – most box filters can be flimsy and break or crack easily as a result. I couldn’t be happier with this product.

So iv gone through a few different sponge filters and so far this one looks pretty good. The look is pretty clean and sound is silent but it¡¯s not supposed to be loud anyway. That fat fish was pretty curious about it but it¡¯s always looking to eat so that¡¯s fair.

This is a slightly different design than any of my other sponge filters but it seems to work great. My only complaint is that the surface area of the sponge is quite small compared to others, but it does work great filtering and putting o2 into my aquarium. Easy to clean when it does need it.
