this filter is wonderful. I had a different kind of sponge filter before that sat in the back corner on the floor of my aquarium and it never worked too great and I needed an air hose and airstones for it, which made it not as aesthetically pleasing and also just was loud. this filter mounts on the side of the aquarium and is so nice and quiet yet powerful. It cleared up my tank so nicely, within an hour of adding it to the tank I noticed a difference and now my tank is crystal clear just one day later. I’m so glad not to have those air hoses and the noise of the air pump anymore. I have a live planted tank, so this is perfect.

UPDATE – May 2024: The population in my 15 gallon tank increased with breeding and the filter sponges couldn’t handle the higher waste load as they are very fine. I considered sourcing coarser sponges to alleviate the pressure, but instead, relocated it to another 15 gallon betta tank with snails and shrimp. It works great in that tank, and I am still happy with this filter, as is my Betta.

I wanted to switch to a sponge filter because the fish I got do not like strong flow, and the HOB filter I had could only be baffled so much. I decided to give this one a go because it has a built in pump (no need for an external air pump) and included bio media along with the mechanical sponge filters. This is a great feature for when you need to replace the sponges (two extra ones are included in the packaging and they will last you years) the bio media maintains the biological filtration to help prevent ammonia/nitrate/nitrite spikes. I use this in my 15 gallon tall, and it’s perfect! Absolutely quiet and the flow is not too strong when you extend the telescopic outlet to just above the water line. There is an optional air hose intake to add more aeration to the water if you need it, but I just run mine without as the outlet provides enough surface agitation for gas exchange. It is quite large, but with proper aquascaping, you can hide the filter from view. I’ve had the filter running for a few months now and I highly recommend it.

It seems to be holding up after months of use. I was concerned about the longevity. After a while the filter output seemed to get very weak. I finally realized i had to remove and clean the sponges when that happens. I thought the pump was going out but the sponges were just clogged. Very quiet and tank water looks super clear.

I bought this for a 20 gal fresh water tank 6 months ago. I only have 2 leopard cat fish and one yellow bristled nose pleco. I completely change the water twice a year due to all of the gunk my bottom feeders don’t clean up! They love a clean fresh tank and have lived for about 6-7 years now. This filter is easy to clean and keeps my tank crystal clear. Would definitely recommend.

Love this filter. Works great. Love that the spout is adjustable. Had a HOB filter but it was useless with baby fry. Bought this one. Now have a tank of guppy fry and shrimp fry. Keep tank clean and shrimp love hanging out on the sponges.

Hey, you know what you’re buying and it’s no less or better than what you’re thinking. Lol. Jokes aside it works well. I don’t have any complaints. If you want just some extra filtration in your tank this is a good option. Keep in mind the size of it will take up a little room.
