This fish tank filter works great for my 20 gallon aquarium. The flow rate provides excellent water circulation without being too strong, and the adjustable waterflow is a great feature for dialing it in just right. It runs very quietly, which is a big plus, and does a great job with bio filtration and oxygenation. The water stays clear, and my fish seem much happier with the improved circulation. Installation was simple, and the compact design doesn¡¯t take up much space in the tank. If you¡¯re looking for a reliable, quiet internal filter for a medium-sized tank, this one is an excellent choice. Highly recommended!

I have a 10-gallon fish tank that¡¯s home to one very large ¡°feeder¡± fish I rescued from a pet store. About six years ago, I brought home four tiny feeder fish, and while the other three didn¡¯t live nearly as long, this one has thrived and is still going strong today. The previous filter I used for this tank was unbelievably loud¡ªso much so that I had to turn it off every evening just so we could watch TV without the constant noise. When I came across this filter and saw that it was advertised as very quiet, I figured it was worth a try. I¡¯m so glad I did. This filter is absolutely fantastic. It¡¯s insanely quiet¡ªso quiet that I actually have to look at the tank to make sure water is flowing just to confirm it¡¯s running. The difference compared to my old filter is night and day, and I couldn¡¯t be happier with the upgrade. On top of that, it was extremely easy to assemble and fits my 10-gallon tank perfectly, almost as if it were custom-made for it. Overall, I¡¯m thrilled with this filter and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful yet whisper-quiet option.

The design for the filter is interesting as different look then most in tank filters. It's nice to have two different options for how it's going to work either the airation option or the water fountain style. The instructions are very clear as far as how to put it together as well as how to switch between the two options. The one issue I have with this is from the size that the filter is you realistically will not be successful using this in a 40 gallon tank. If you did you will need to be doing a lot of maintenance to keep it clean and running. A 20 gallon tank might work ok, though I have it in a 10 gallon and it's working quite well.

  1. First photo is the day of installation. The water was clean over the night. I chose the waterfall spout as the side jet was a bit too strong for my betta wish.

  2. This filter exceeded my expectations in both quality and functionality. Assembly was straightforward and intuitive¡ªeverything fit together perfectly without any guesswork.
The build quality is immediately noticeable. Solid materials, well-designed components, and a motor that feels durable and reliable. This doesn’t feel like a budget filter¡ªit feels like equipment built to last. I placed this in the back chamber of my saltwater tank, adding the included carbon spheres for extra chemical filtration. It fits snugly but perfectly¡ªnot too tight, just secure and stable. The compact design makes excellent use of limited space without compromising filtration power. Also provides excellent aeration, as multiple outlets provide great oxygen exchange for my tank inhabitants.
While I’m using it in saltwater, the adjustable flow and dual outlet options make this adaptable to various tank types¡ªfreshwater, planted tanks, shrimp setups, etc. Remarkably quiet for the amount of water it moves. Perfect for any living space. With soothing water flow sounds that creates a pleasant, gentle water movement¡ªnot too loud or disruptive
Bottom Line: Exceptional value for a multi-functional filter. Easy assembly, quality construction, effective filtration, and peaceful operation. Whether you’re using it in a display tank or tucked away in a back chamber like mine, it delivers professional results. Highly recommend!

  3. The filter arrived quickly and well packaged. It is a small filter, so even though this is rated for a 20-40 gal tank, I would not utilize it on anything bigger than a 20 gal tank. The amount of bio-balls is small and the sponge filter is not large. I think it would work well on a 10-20 gal tank, unless the aquarium has only a few fish. It also may need to have the sponge cleaned of debris more often, because of the size. Past that, this is a very nice little filter.

The filter requires assembly when delivered, but is easy to put together. Please note there are two different configurations that utilize different pieces, so you will not use all the pieces at one time. There is the spray bar outlet that gives good flow and can be redirected in many different configurations that allows it to be utilized in many different locations and for different purposes. The flow can be pointed in most any direction and can be located above or below the water level. The other configuration is a straight jet that has an air inlet that provides an aerated single stream of water. It basically shoots parallel to the water level. The aerator intake must be above the water level, so that limits the depth of the filter and direction of the outlet stream. The spray bar has no such limitations. I struggled to get the aerator to pull in air. I got it to work for a brief couple of seconds, but didn¡¯t mess with it too much as I prefer the spray bar.

The filter does have a small lever that allows some flowrate adjustments. The video shows the low flow setting at the start of the video and then the high flow at the end of the video. (This is the 7watt version.) The unit utilizes suction cops for staying attached to the walls. I wish this had utilized magnets, as I know from experience, the suction cups will eventually become a problem on the glass walls. They at least allow you to place the unit wherever you want in the aquarium. The other worry I have with the unit is the top (pump) and bottom (filter media compartment) are just held together by a friction connection. The more times these are taken apart for cleaning the less friction will be there as the parts wear. The water intake for the unit is simply holes cut in the sides and bottom of the unit, which is nice as there is no harsh one-point intake to get clogged or suck a fish in.

Overall, for the price, this is a very nice little unit. Well made and very nice functionality. Could be better with a couple of enhancements mentioned above, but overall it is well designed. I wouldn¡¯t use it for a tank larger than 20 gals unless the bio-load was very small, but for a 5, 10 or even 20 gal tank it will make a nice filter. No place for charcoal or other ¡°cleaning¡± media, but those aren¡¯t needed if water changes are done routinely. Thumbs up from me.

  4. With several years of aquarium keeping behind me and a variety of tanks running at home, I have learned to appreciate filters that offer dependable performance without taking up too much space. I also enjoy testing new equipment to see if it can complement or improve my current filtration systems. This AQQA submersible filter seemed like a good candidate for one of my mid-sized tanks, so I decided to give it a try.
    Build Quality & Materials Used
The filter feels well constructed for its size. The plastic housing is sturdy, and the internal compartments fit together securely. The intake slots are cleanly cut, and the overall design looks neat and functional. It is compact enough to tuck into a corner without being an eyesore. Compared to a similar small submersible filter I have used before, this one feels slightly more solid and better assembled.
    Functionality & Features
For a 7W filter, it offers a respectable 158GPH flow rate, which is suitable for tanks in the 20 to 40 gallon range. The combination of mechanical and biological filtration is helpful because it provides both debris removal and a place for beneficial bacteria to grow. The filter runs quietly, and the water output is steady. It is simple to install and easy to access for cleaning, which is always a plus.
    Durability
After running it continuously, the motor remained quiet and did not overheat. The flow stayed consistent, and the housing showed no signs of vibration or stress. It feels more durable than another compact filter I tried previously, which weakened after a few weeks. This one seems capable of handling regular use as long as it is maintained properly.
    Other Thoughts
This is a small filter with enough media to serve its purpose, and I think it works well as a supplemental or backup filter to your main filtration system. It is especially useful for tanks that need a little extra circulation or biological support. The package includes the filter unit and the internal media, all neatly packed and ready to use.
    Final Recommendation
This AQQA filter is a practical backup filter option for hobbyists who want a compact, quiet, and easy-to-maintain filter. It performs well for its size and offers good value, especially as a secondary filter or for lightly stocked tanks. I would recommend it as a reliable backup or as an additional filtration boost for mid-sized aquariums.

  5. We are upgrading our aquarium and needed a larger filter. I am eager to get it set up and going. I like the style and filtration system. Very easy to assemble and even easier to install. If you prefer to use this filter as a waterfall you also have that option. We cant wait to see it in action.
