Note2: memory function, in the event of a power outage, the light will retain its previous settings. Once the power is restored, the light will light up in the previously set color, brightness, and lighting time without resetting.
Overall a nice light with a nice changing 24 hour timer. The white and colorful LEDs make a nice look in the tank. Its very easy to set the colors and timer. The minuses for this light are that the mounting system while functional and very adjustable is slightly less premium feeling than others I’ve seen. Also the brightness is not terribly strong and the brightness is only highest during the middle of the day so its a little more subdued. I have a 5 gallon tall tank and its good for that but for anything taller I think the brightness would not quite cut it. For small tanks its a nice choice.
I have this installed on a low-tech 5.5 gallon Aqueon tank that’s about 16″ long and it’s more than enough power. I found I needed to move the height adjustment to the second-highest setting to reduce intensity enough to not induce algae blooms. The in-line controller is not the most intuitive but the manual does a decent job explaining the buttons and you do get used to it after a few days of usage. I experimented with the 24 hour cycle and it does work but it seems pretty gimmicky. It basically just adjusts power and color temperature to simulate sunrise/sunset/midday and then uses Blue LEDs for moonlight.
Quirky:
– The basic 6/10/12 hour timer settings that I use don’t actually let you control power intensity. Unlike most inexpensive tank lights, they give you an intelligent cycle where the first couple hours are a slow ramp-up and the final couple hours are a slow ramp-down. You end up with full intensity only in the middle of the cycle you select.
I have installed this on a 10 gallon tank and think it is perfect. It is height adjustable which is a plus to prevent mineralization on the lights’ underside from splashing water and allows the perfect amount of light to reach the tank. It was easy to install and the manual was easy to follow to set it to the right light mode and function such as the day cycle function.
I like this light, it is bright and adjustable. This light has an easy to use controller.
This light is designed to fit on the rim of a rimless tank. I don’t care for that design because the other way to do it with the expanding metal on each end lets it work on all kinds of tanks. Since I have a fishroom and knew I would be able to mount it to the stand, I did not care.
I was using a fluorescent replacement LED 5000k over the tank in the picture and it did not do a good job. This new full spectrum light will make a big difference with my live plants.
I have a few other lights and other aquarium related products from this company and I have always been pleased with them.
This is an incredible quality light for the price, I was amazed when a nice silicone lined metal unit arrived with a nice holder that attaches to the lip of the aquarium. It’s very easy to assemble, offers the ability to customize the direction it’s attached for your tanks specific needs, and has an easy to use control interface. I only use the 24 hour feature as to keep my shrimp and plants on a cycle, and it works perfect. Very happy overall.
