It’s an okay little filter for beginner fish keepers to understand the filtration system and the function of a surface oil skimmer. However, it’s nowhere near a particularly good product. It’s easy and simple to use, but a little flimsy.
The suction power is on the weaker side, and the noise level is on the higher side. That’s typical for a hang-on filter: it vibrates against the glass, and the water spill causes splashing and noise. It’s a starter filter for new hobbyists.
Very easy to install, very quiet and works great on my 20 gallon tank.
I really liked this filter, to my surprise. Normally I stay away from ones that require cartridge refills. However, this one is quite nice, particularly for the price. It’s slim and compact, making it great for a tank pressed closed to a wall or otherwise with little space. It’s easy to set up and add the media to, easy to get started, and very quiet. It proved too strong on my 4 gal shrimp tank even turned down all the way, but something in similar size that likes medium-high flow or a tank 8-10 gallons would be perfect for this.
This seems to clear the tank water like the last filter. It functions similarly without too much pull on the intake. It is louder than my last filter. It isn’t too bad, but I would prefer a quieter one.
